Mission: To inspire, motivate, and prepare middle school students to succeed on a college track through academic enrichment, college planning, leadership training, arts programming, ACT prep and community experiences.

 

Greenville Renaissance Scholars is looking for an energetic and innovative educator to be the new Executive Director for the organization. The Executive Director will report to and work closely with the GRS volunteer Board to provide high-quality, rigorous, creative and engaging programming year-round to middle school students in the Greenville area.

 

The Executive Director oversees after-school programming and some Saturday programming during the school year and our annual Camp Renaissance during the month of June - a full-day, month-long summer program employing certified teachers for academic enrichment and experienced teachers/practitioners of a arts including music, dance, theater, and visual arts.

 

The Executive Director is the only year round paid employee and thus is in charge of creating, managing, and running all programs; hiring paid staff for the summer camp and recruiting volunteers; keeping orderly records of the organization; managing the budget and necessary payments; and other duties determined by the board and with their oversight.

 

As GRS is a registered nonprofit in Mississippi, fundraising and grantwriting are important aspects of the Executive Director’s job, including timely grant applications and reports. The Executive Director’s role to start will be part-time 20 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during the months of June and July. Fulltime employment may be considered as programs grow and funding becomes available.

Desired Qualifications

  • Commitment to supporting the youth of Greenville

  • Previous experience leading afterschool youth programs

  • Ability and willingness to lead high-quality afterschool and summer programs that incorporate academics, arts, educational travel, and health and fitness

  • Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office, Google online programs and software to create fliers such as Canva or Microsoft Publisher

  • Experience in advertising for events through word of mouth, flyers, social media, presentations, and additional methods

  • Strong communication skills and ability to connect with stakeholders including students, families, board members, donors, granting organizations, staff at local schools, and community members

  • Previous grant writing and/or donor management experience

  • Previous experience managing an organizational budget​

  • Designing, coordinating, and providing direct instruction to Scholars in a fun and rigorous program for participating rising 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders

  • Be prepared to work five days a week

  • Fulfill and maintain health standards for the fun and safety of participants

  • Directly supervise Scholars

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of Scholars at all times

  • Timely submission of curriculum and lesson plans

  • Facilitate a "club" at the start of each day and have available high-energy, fun, and creative activities to be used during short breaks throughout the day

  • Administer pre- and post-lesson/session evaluations

  • Fill out incident reports (if any)
